STA M

Trade guilds

Guilds are an integral part of the STAM collection. They created beautiful ceremonial objects such as procession torches, insignia, and coats of arms. At the end of the eighteenth century, the guilds were abolished and their patrimony was dispersed. As a result of a very active purchasing policy, the museum collection grew rapidly, particularly between 1860 and 1890. After that the pieces were harder to come by, but guilds have remained a subject of special interest, so much so in fact that it would be impossible to imagine the STAM collection without them!
