What is now a vibrant cultural hotspot was a centre of care for more than seven centuries. Explore the beautiful Bijloke site and its historic abbey with your group, and step into the world of the sisters who lived and worked here.
Guided by the principles of ora et labora and charity, these women withdrew from worldly life while remaining deeply connected to society. Their story is one of devotion and determination, obedience and rebellion, care and leadership. Discover how these remarkable women found their place in the world, caring for others with their hands and serving a higher purpose with their hearts.
This tour takes you both indoors and outdoors, through the STAM, the historic Bijloke Abbey and the Bijloke site itself. Discover the abbey refectory, dormitory and church, where the sisters lived, worked and cared for generations of patients.
STAM also offers this guided tour for primary and secondary school groups. An engaging and interactive way to discover the history of Ghent with your class.

Feel free to touch! A fun children’s trail that leads through every room in the museum. Children become merchants, craftspeople, architects or city trippers and participate in city life. They sell cloth, make coats of arms, face façades and work out routes.
STAM turned ten last year... time for a make-over for the permanent exhibition! Since the end of 2020 you can stroll through the new Story of Ghent.
